Cupping/Hijama:

– “What is that again?”

– “Is it truly a Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH)?!”

– “Is it mentioned in Hadith, and we don’t know? Really?!”

We have become very accustomed to these amazements!

There may be many things we don’t know! But since health is a great blessing, shouldn’t we learn about Hijama for our well-being?

Cupping is more commonly known as Hijama among Muslims. It is a Sunnah. Although Bangladesh is a predominantly Muslim country, it is unfortunate that most of us know very little about this beautiful Sunnah. The advice given by angels to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on the night of Miraj for his Ummah to practice Hijama is now recognized by science after so many years!

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

1. “The best treatment among you is Hijama.” (Sahih Bukhari-5697)

2. “Indeed, there is a cure in Hijama therapy for all diseases. Adopt the method of Hijama.” (Kanzul Ummal-28112)

3. “On the night of Miraj, every group of angels I passed by said, ‘O Muhammad (PBUH), instruct your Ummah to adopt Hijama therapy.’” (Sunan Ibn Majah-3479)

Hazrat Jabir (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Indeed, there is a cure in Hijama.” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith Number: 2205)

Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Jibrael (AS) informed me that among the methods of treatment, Hijama is the best.” (Al-Hakim: 7470)

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “The Hijama practitioner is the best person. He removes contaminated blood, strengthens the spine, and improves eyesight.” (Sunan Tirmidhi, 2053)

Hazrat Anas (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Seek help from Hijama when the heat increases, as it may lead to death if blood pressure increases.” (Al-Hakim: 7482)

**Since there are special benefits of Hijama on the head, it is mentioned separately.**

Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used Hijama for severe headache while in the state of Ihram. (Bukhari-5701)

Salma (RA) said, “Whenever someone came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) complaining of a headache, he advised them to use Hijama.” (Abu Dawood-3858)

**To Destroy Black Magic or Kufr**

Ibn Qayyim (RA) commented that when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was afflicted by magic, he used Hijama on his head. This is the best treatment if done correctly. (Zad al-Maad 4/125-126)

What is Hijama for this country?

A ‘forgotten Sunnah’? A ‘dying Sunnah’?

Or merely an ‘unknown Sunnah’???

To those who have recently heard about Hijama and are amazed; who have started practicing Hijama; who are telling their close ones about Hijama and bringing them for it – we want to remind them of these Hadiths!

Hazrat Anas (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “If you can stay in such a way in the morning and evening that you do not have any malice towards anyone, then stay that way. This is my Sunnah. Whoever revives my Sunnah loves me, and whoever loves me will be with me in Paradise.” – (Tirmidhi: 2678)

Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “In the time of my Ummah’s crisis, whoever holds on to my Sunnah will receive the reward of a hundred martyrs.” – (Bayhaqi)

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masud (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Islam began as something strange and will return to being strange, so blessed are the strangers.” – (Tirmidhi: 2566, Hasan and Sahih)

Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Whoever calls towards guidance will receive the same reward as those who follow him, without decreasing their reward at all. And whoever calls towards misguidance will bear the same burden of sin as those who follow him, without reducing their sins in the least.” – (Muslim, Tirmidhi-2611: Hasan and Sahih)

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masud (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Islam began as something strange and will return to being strange, so blessed are the strangers.” – (Tirmidhi: Hadith No. 2566: Hasan and Sahih).

Regarding their identity, it has been said, “Those who revive my Sunnah after it has been corrupted by people.” – (Tirmidhi: Hadith No. 2567)

Another narration: Hazrat Anas (RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Whoever revives my Sunnah has revived me. And whoever revives me will be with me in Paradise.” – (Tirmidhi: 2nd Vol., p. 96)

What could be more joyful for those of us in this country practicing Hijama?
